Grand Canal

Day 27: Lucerne to Venice

Today was an early start to catch the train trough the Alps into Italy, then across the north of Italy to Venice. The trip through the Alps was spectacular, but difficult to photograph from the train. Once in Venice we were met and taken to our hotel by water taxi. I didn’t realize that the station was right on the Grand Canal. Wow! The taxi took us up through the Grand Canal to the Rialto Bridge, then down a side ‘street’ to near the hotel. Once on dry ground our guide got lost and had to phone-a-friend. At this point we thought we had no chance of navigating the narrow winding streets of Venice. After checking in we took a stroll down to St Marc’s Square and around the south side of Venice. After a dinner of pizza (of course) we wandered up to the Rialto Bridge, took lots of photos and headed back for an early night. We even managed to not get lost.
