Extreme Geocaching

Today I had the opportunity to do some extreme geocaching. In the geocaching world this is called a 'Terrain 5' geocache - a cache that requires specialised equipment to get to it. The geocache was hidden about half way down a 25m cliff at Thompsons Point, Nowra.

That's me dangling on the cliff face. It's been a few years (maybe 20?) since I've been abseiling so this was a great experience.

Photograph was taken by geocacher Rock-hopper.

More details and more photos here.

ANZAC Day

For the 4th year, Lauren danced at Sussex Inlet RSL club for their official luncheon.

Rather than another dance photo, I decided on the flags.

Coolendel Lookout

Needed to do some geocache maintenance, so I decided to do it just on sunset. In the foreground is Coolendel Lookout, with the Shoalhaven River and Ettrema Wilderness in the distance

No pigeons here

Went for a wander up Pigeon House Mountain with the kids. Didn't see a single pigeon!
It was a very hazy day, and the whole time we were at the top it was overcast as well. Doesn't produce the best conditions for photography. Damn.

Time to go home

When I started this photo-a-day caper, I had no idea how it might evolve. It's been mostly about the photos, but as it goes on it's becoming a diary of our lives as well. Today's photo is very much about a-day-in-the-life-of-the-Hunters.

This is pack up time in Narooma. Lauren and Lach had the job of winding up the jacks and winding the roof down. 15 minutes after this photo was taken we were on the road.

Bar Rock, Narooma

An ominous looking day at Narooma, but the rain held off while we checked out the Narooma Bar. With waves breaking just off the bar, it was clear to see why this bar crossing is considered one of the most dangerous on the NSW coast. There is no way anything would be crossing it today.

Catching up with a few chores. Cold and windy outside, so its indoor jobs today.

Today's treat

Standard holiday activity. Cooking. Chocolate cup cakes in this instance. The best part is that I don't need to help any more. The cakes just appear as if by magic. Magic kids.

A new experience

One of the things I love about school holidays is the chance to let the kids experience things they've never seen before.

Today Lachlan had a new experience. He watched me polish the car. This is the first time in his life he has seen my car get polished. Could it really be more than 10 years since my car was polished? (That was a rhetorical question dad. No need for an answer from you!)

A bit of trivia...

With the kids home from their cub camp and me back from Torquay, it's time for the school holidays to begin - with a game of Trivial Pursuit.

Let the games begin.

The Castle?

How ugly are the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Makes me wonder if "The Castle" was a documentary.

For Old Times Sake

It's been about 33 years or so since Claire and Lou's kids have been in the same place as all the Hunter kids, so this photo was a must.

Lots of flowers

I was trying to work out how to photograph all the flowers sent to Claire. It's impossible. There's simply no way of getting them all in one photo - so I took lots of photos.

Goodbye Lou

Some days the world just doesn't make sense. Today was one of those days.

We'll miss you Lou. Our thoughts with you Claire.

Prepare for winter

A perfect autumn day to get out in the garden. First task - blow up the hedge trimmer. Luckily I managed to trim most of the hedge before I killed it. Second task - prepare my tiny excuse for a vege garden for a winter crop.

The Pavilion

Nowra Showground Pavilion. But it could be the pavilion from almost any showground in NSW. It always puzzles me that all these pavilions appear to have been build at around the same time. Where was the money coming from? Can anyone shed some light on the history of these buildings?

Soccer time

Soccer season begins tomorrow. New boots - nice and shiny white. I don't think they'll stay that colour for long.

I can't quite make myself call it football. For too long football has meant aussie rules football in my house. Old habits die hard I guess.
